Age Action underscores the urgent need for the government to increase the core rate of the State Pension and introduce legislation to benchmark it at 34% of average earnings. As one in three older persons living alone faced the risk of poverty in 2022 (up from one in five in 2020), Age Action proposes raising the Living Alone Increase from €22 to €30/week. This measure aims to address the concentration of poverty among older individuals living alone and provide them with essential additional income support.
