We are excited to share a momentous breakthrough in Alzheimer’s research that brings new hope for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and their families. The drug lecanemab has shown promising results in clinical trials, potentially slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
What is Lecanemab?
Lecanemab is an antibody treatment designed to target and remove amyloid plaques from the brain — the protein deposits that are a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. Clinical trials have shown that lecanemab can slow cognitive decline in people with early-stage Alzheimer’s by approximately 27%.
What This Means for People Living with Dementia
While lecanemab is not a cure for Alzheimer’s, the results represent a significant step forward. For the first time, we have a treatment that appears to meaningfully slow the progression of the disease, rather than simply managing symptoms.
